    With the exhibition Vanity – Fashion/Photography from the collection F.C. Gundlach the Kunsthalle Wien presents about 200 chosen works from the collection F.C. Gundlach in the course of the focus on photography. Born 1926 in Heinebach/Hessen, F.C. Gundlach himself was a legendary fashion photographer. He produced 180 covers and 5.500 pages of editorial fashion for the German magazine Brigitte. He also is a gallery owner, collector, curator and sponsor.

    Photographs from the year 1929 until today can be seen. Pictures which dedicate themselves to the staged picture of fashion and the aesthetics of fashion photography: From classic studio photography at George Hoyningen-Huene and Irving Penn to dynamic silhouettes in an urban context at Richard Avedon and William Klein. Next to it, famous photographs for Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar by Horst P. Horst as well as costume photographs by Cecil Beton and F.C. Gundlach’s staging of pop and op-art fashion.

    The exhibition “Vanity – fashion/photography from the collection F.C. Gundlach” can be visited until February 12th 2012 at the Kunsthalle Wien.
