    Louis Vuitton´s Magic of Fashion

    04 April 2012

Since the Alexander McQueen -Savage Beauty show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, it seems that all the en vogue museums want to exhibit fashion. Just recently there was the Daphne Guinness fashion exhibit at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and the exhibit at the Wien Museum, More Than Fashion—the Katarina Noever Collection.

Now it’s Paris’s turn: the “Louis VuittonMarc Jacobs exhibit just opened at Paris’s  Musée les Arts Décoratifs. The exhibit presents the development of the two men as a type of contrast. The lower floor is dedicated to the founder, Louis Vuitton, who produced deluxe luggage for the upper class of 19th-century Paris.     On the upper floor the new Louis Vuitton brand is presented, as reconfigured by Marc Jacobs. It was Bernard Arnault who brought the American designer to Paris in 1997. Arnault was also the one who had bought the, at that time, outmoded luggage and purse concern. But Louis Vuitton is mainly known because of its famous LV monogram that Vuittons son Louis created in 1896.

The Louis Vuittton – Marc Jacobs exhibit is on view at  Musée les Arts Décoratifs in Paris until 16. September.
